Yes I have bought a gift card with a personal check. Walmart doesn’t seem to care so long as they get their money.
June 27th, 2009 at 8:46 amYes, they do accept personal checks to purchase gift cards. However, if you’re writing a check for money not yet in your bank account that could get expensive. Maybe you could borrow money from a friend or relative until payday. You also could write a check and post date it to the birthday person. You might be alright writing a check at Walmart but if something happens and the check clears before the monies are deposited there are lots of additional fees involved. Good-luck !

I hate to admit this, but I’ve been in your position more times than I care to admit and I have “floated” checks at Walmart. It usually takes 2-3 days to clear my bank.

July 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pmI am late in answering this question. Just for some info. Some Wal-marts use check21 and you will get the check back. It will not approve the check if the funds are not in the account There is no more floating of a check.
