I am selling items on Craigslist, should it be expected to not accept personal checks? ?

No, it’s not rude. In your ad, mention what types of payments you will accept and not accept to avoid any awkwardness in case the potential buyer is thinking of showing up with a check.

anyone can close a checking account, then give you the, now worthless, check.
this is why most companies either hold the check for a few weeks, or make you register for a check cashing account first, so they can verify it.
some people even offer to buy the item with a check for twice the price of the item, then you cash the check and send them the difference.
works great , until the check bounces in a few weeks, and you have to reimburse the bank for the check, and you lost the item.
Best to state forms of payment in your ad. People can’t get offended if they know up front.
OTOH if I drove for an hour to see your stuff, only to find you won’t accept my check which *I* know is good, I would be unhappy
