best thing to do is go to the bank where the check was written. Make sure to bring several types of ID. They may be able to cash the check right away
If this does not work, you may be best opening a savings account, depositing the check and waiting for it to clear, which should be the next day or so. Opening a savings account is a good idea anyway - eventually you will be able to save enough whereby you may not have to worry about always being broke - even if you deposit small amounts at a time.
